Smite 2's Open Beta Launch: A New Era for the MOBA
Get ready! Smite 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the popular MOBA, launches its free-to-play open beta on January 14, 2025. This marks a significant milestone for the Unreal Engine 5-powered game, which entered alpha in 2024.
This launch isn't just about access; it's about a wealth of new content. Alongside the open beta, players will welcome Aladdin, the first God from the Tales of Arabia pantheon, into the fray. Aladdin, a Magical Assassin and Jungler, boasts unique abilities including wall-running and enemy trapping.
Returning favorites from the original Smite, such as Mulan, Geb, Ullr, and Agni, will also be present, though with updated skill sets. By the end of January 2025, the roster is projected to boast nearly 50 Gods.
Beyond new Gods, Smite 2's open beta introduces exciting new game modes:
- Joust (3v3): An Arthurian-themed map featuring teleporters and stealth grass for strategic gameplay.
- Duel (1v1): Utilizing the same map as Joust, offering intense one-on-one combat.
The innovative "Aspects" system adds another layer of strategic depth. Players can sacrifice a God's standard ability for a powerful alternative. For example, Athena can forgo her ally-shielding teleport for a foe-weakening one. Twenty Gods will initially feature Aspects, with more to come.
Quality-of-life improvements are also a major focus, including:
- Role Guides for new players
- Enhanced in-game messaging
- PC text chat
- Improved item store
- Death recaps
The open beta will also set the stage for the first Smite 2 esports tournament, taking place at the HyperX Arena in Las Vegas from January 17-19.
Smite 2 is available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Prepare for battle!
