SoMoGa Inc. has released a significantly updated version of Vay for Android, iOS, and Steam. Vay, a classic 16-bit RPG, returns with enhanced visuals, a modernized user interface, and controller support.
Originally launched in Japan in 1993 on the Sega CD (developed by Hertz and localized for the US by Working Designs), Vay received an iOS re-release by SoMoGa in 2008. This latest iteration breathes new life into the beloved title.
What's New in the Revamped Vay?
This updated Vay boasts over 100 enemies, a dozen formidable bosses, and exploration across 90 diverse areas. A standout feature is the adjustable difficulty levels, catering to various player preferences.
Further improvements include an auto-save function, Bluetooth controller support for flexible gameplay, the ability to acquire new equipment and items, character leveling with new spell acquisition, and an AI system enabling autonomous character combat.
The Story
Set in a distant galaxy, the game unfolds millennia after a devastating interstellar war. A colossal, malfunctioning machine crashed onto the technologically underdeveloped planet Vay, unleashing widespread destruction.
Players embark on a quest to rescue their abducted wife and potentially save the world. The peaceful kingdom is attacked on the wedding day, and the bride is kidnapped, prompting an epic journey to thwart the war machines.
Vay's compelling narrative blends nostalgia with modern elements. Faithful to its JRPG origins, characters gain experience and gold through random encounters. The game features nearly ten minutes of animated cutscenes with both English and Japanese audio options.
Vay revamped is available now on the Google Play Store as a premium title priced at $5.99. Be sure to check out our other gaming news as well.
