Star Wars Hunters Announces Shut Down Just 9 Months After Launch, Steam Release Appears Scrapped

by Hannah Jul 23,2025

In a surprising turn of events, Zynga has announced the full shutdown of *Star Wars: Hunters*, just nine months after its initial release. The decision marks a swift end to the free-to-play, team-based battle arena game developed by NaturalMotion. Originally launched in June 2024 for Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android, the game received a modest 7/10 in IGN’s Star Wars: Hunters review, with praise for its lighthearted PvP action but concerns over long-term engagement—foreshadowing its short lifespan.

Final Updates and Shutdown Timeline

Zynga confirmed that the last content update for *Star Wars: Hunters* will go live on April 15, 2025. After that date, no new content will be added, and in-game purchases will be permanently disabled across all platforms. However, players can continue enjoying the game until the online servers are scheduled to shut down on October 1, 2025.

To give fans more time to experience endgame content, Season 5 will be extended by three weeks starting March 25. During this period, Zynga will re-run popular events and shop bundles, while also extending the Ranked Season to allow players a better chance to reach the coveted Kyber 1 rank.

The final update will introduce Tuya as a new Support Hunter, available to all players at no cost. Additional in-game content will be included, and the final Ranked Mode leaderboard will remain active, with all battlefields and game modes rotating as usual.

PC Version on Steam Officially Scrapped

Notably absent from the shutdown announcement is any mention of the previously planned PC release. The Steam page for *Star Wars: Hunters* now states the game is “no longer available on the Steam store,” confirming that the early access launch on PC has been canceled. This comes after Zynga had touted the PC release as a milestone, marking its first foray beyond mobile into desktop gaming.

Back in November, Yaron Leyvan, Executive Vice President of Games at Zynga, expressed excitement about expanding the game to PC, calling it a response to fan demand and a significant step for the company. However, with the game’s underwhelming performance, those plans have now been abandoned.

“We understand this news may be disappointing and want to assure you that this decision was not made lightly,” Zynga stated. “Your passion and dedication to the game and its community have meant the world to us, and we are committed to providing visibility and updates throughout the transition process.”

What’s Next for Star Wars Games?

While *Star Wars: Hunters* comes to an end, the broader Star Wars gaming universe remains active. Upcoming titles include Respawn Entertainment’s third installment in the *Star Wars Jedi* series and Bit Reactor’s turn-based tactics game, both expected to be showcased at Star Wars Celebration 2025. These projects signal continued investment in the franchise, even as some experiments, like *Star Wars: Hunters*, conclude earlier than expected.
