Mastering Weapon and Armor Upgrades in Avowed: A Comprehensive Guide
Progressing through Avowed introduces increasingly challenging enemies. To maintain combat effectiveness, upgrading your gear is crucial. This guide details how to enhance weapons and armor in Avowed.
Upgrade Locations: Workbenches
Weapon and armor upgrades are performed at Workbenches (pictured above). These require various materials depending on the item type and quality. Many materials are readily available in the game world or craftable. However, advancing an item's quality requires progressively rarer Adra.
Workbenches are situated at Party Camps, established near Adra Waystones. Locate a Waystone, interact with it, and choose the option to set up camp. Camps are marked on your map with a tent icon and are fast-travel destinations.
Understanding Weapon and Armor Levels
Avowed uses a two-pronged system for gear power: Quality and Upgrade Levels.
-
Quality: Represented by a numerical value, color rarity (Green, Blue, Purple, Red, Gold), and an adjective. Quality corresponds to enemy levels in the Living Lands. Lower-quality gear is less effective against higher-level enemies. Using gear with a lower quality than your enemies will significantly reduce your damage output and defense.
-
Upgrade Levels (+0 to +3): Within each Quality tier, three additional upgrade levels exist. While less impactful than Quality increases, they still boost stats. All three levels must be maxed before advancing to the next Quality.
Which Gear to Upgrade?
Avowed features standard and Unique weapons and armor.
-
Standard Gear: Commonly found as loot or purchased from merchants. These can only be upgraded to Superb Quality.
-
Unique Gear: Named items obtained through quests, boss drops, or occasionally from merchants. These can reach Legendary Quality and possess unique bonuses and perks.
Prioritize upgrading Unique gear. Standard gear serves as temporary equipment and should be sold or salvaged for resources to enhance your Unique items.
By following these steps, you'll ensure your gear keeps pace with your progression in Avowed.
Avowed is currently available on PC and Xbox.
