Warner Bros. Games is shutting down its mobile title, Mortal Kombat: Onslaught, less than a year after its launch. The game was removed from the Google Play Store and App Store on July 22nd, 2024. In-app purchases will be disabled on August 23rd, 2024, with servers officially going offline on October 21st, 2024.
The reasons for the closure remain undisclosed, although the recent shutdown of NetherRealm's mobile games division (responsible for Mortal Kombat Mobile and Injustice) suggests a potential shift in the company's mobile gaming strategy.
The status of in-game purchases and potential refunds remains unclear. NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. Games have yet to comment on refunds for in-game currency and items, but promise further updates via their official X (formerly Twitter) account.
Launched in October 2023 to commemorate the Mortal Kombat franchise's 30th anniversary, Mortal Kombat: Onslaught offered a unique departure from traditional Mortal Kombat fighting games. It blended action-adventure combat with a cinematic storyline, reminiscent of free-to-play mobile MOBAs. Players teamed up with Raiden to thwart the Elder God Shinnok's power grab.
