Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana may replace Ys 3 chronologically, but it remains an excellent entry point for newcomers. This game introduces players to a significant challenge with Dularn, but Ellefale, The Azure Queen of Death, takes the difficulty to a whole new level. It's crucial for players to maintain their distance from this boss to avoid her frequent and powerful attacks.
Ellefale can withstand a considerable amount of damage even on normal difficulty, and tackling her on a higher difficulty can seem daunting. However, the Ignis Bracelet offers a viable strategy for success.
How to Beat Ellefale, The Azure Queen of Death
Grinding is essential in this game. Ensure your health exceeds 100, and consider using Raval Ore to upgrade your armor, though it's wise to reserve this ore for better armor later in the game.
Rushing into battle at the start is ill-advised; it increases your risk of taking significant damage and puts you out of range for effective basic attacks. Instead, utilize the Ignis Bracelet to shoot fireballs at Ellefale from a safe distance across the arena. Her attacks are potent but limited, capable of quickly depleting your health.
Ellefale, The Azure Queen of Death Attacks
Individually, Ellefale's attacks are manageable, yet they can restrict your movement within the arena, making positioning crucial. Here are the four attacks in her arsenal:
- A spinning disc attack
- A vertical slashing attack
- Multiple strikes of lightning
- A slow-moving spinning sphere
Spinning Disc
Ellefale launches a spinning disc towards the player, which is too fast to outrun. Timing your jump is essential to avoid taking damage upon landing on it. Late jumps can result in the disc hitting you before you're high enough to dodge. She signals this attack by raising her right arm, making it a critical part of the intense battle.
Vertical Slash
This attack, resembling a thin blade, is easier to evade by simply moving left or right. However, simultaneous attacks from Ellefale may require you to dodge the spinning disc while moving sideways. She signals this move by raising her right arm.
Lightning Strike
This challenging attack is telegraphed by Ellefale leaning forward. You must charge forward when she raises both arms and then run back and jump to the opposite end of the arena to avoid the lightning beams. Staying on the move and jumping can keep you safe from this attack.
Spinning Sphere
Ellefale creates a slow-moving spinning sphere that can limit your safe zones in the arena. While easy to outrun on its own, combined with other projectiles, it can trap you, adding to the boss's difficulty. She signals this move by raising both wings.
