Digital Transformation of Devarattam
This application is part of my initiative, "Digital Revolution of Devarattam," which pays tribute to Kalaimamani
Mr. M. KUMARARAMAN, a retired teacher and Kalaimani awardee, alongside Kalaimani Mr. M. KANNAN KUMAR and Kalaimani Mr. K. NELLAI MANIKANDAN from Zamin Kodangipatti, who were honored with the KALAIMAMANI, KALAIMANI, and USTAD BISMILLAH KHAN YUVA PURASKAR awards respectively for their contributions to Devarattam. I dedicate this app to these respected legends, my Guru Mr. E. RAJAKAMULU, and the beloved icons of Devarattam. My goal in creating the Devarattam app is to promote Devarattam and highlight its award recipients. Within the app, I detail the essence of Devarattam and its honored artists. Devarattam is a traditional folk dance from Tamil Nadu. Historically and in modern times, it has been performed by the Rajakambalathu Nayakkar community. The dance comprises 32 to 72 steps, with 32 foundational movements serving as the core, while the rest are variations of these basics.
Dancers hold a kerchief in each hand, wear Salangai (ankle bells) on each leg, and perform Devarattam to the rhythm of the traditional instrument known as the Deva Thunthumi.
