Dr Disrespect's Midnight Society Shuts Down, Cancels Game

by Brooklyn May 16,2025

Midnight Society, the game development studio co-founded by popular streamer Guy 'Dr. Disrespect' Beahm, has announced its closure after three years of operation. The studio, which was also established by industry veterans Robert Bowling and Quinn Delhyo from the Call of Duty and Halo franchises, made the announcement via a post on X. The statement read, "Today we are announcing Midnight Society will be closing its doors after three incredible years, with an amazing team of over 55 developers." They also reached out to the gaming community, asking if any studios are currently hiring and could offer employment opportunities to their team members.

The studio's flagship project, Deadrop, was a highly anticipated free-to-play first-person shooter (FPS) game that aimed to leverage the team's extensive experience. Initially targeting a 2024 release, Deadrop unfortunately missed its deadline. The game was envisioned in a unique universe where "the 80s never ended," featuring characters in Daft Punk-inspired helmets and equipped with guns and swords. The gameplay was designed to be a PvPvE extraction shooter, promising a blend of player versus player and player versus environment interactions.

Midnight Society's journey took a significant turn in 2024 when they parted ways with Beahm following his admission of exchanging messages with a minor through Twitch's Whispers feature, which he acknowledged as sometimes inappropriate. Despite this split, the studio continued to develop Deadrop until the decision to shut down was made this year.

The closure of Midnight Society adds to the growing list of game studios facing closures and layoffs during a challenging period for the gaming industry. This trend has also affected major companies such as Ubisoft, BioWare, and Phoenix Labs, highlighting the difficulties many in the sector are currently navigating.
