If photos are anything to go by, ASUS has seemingly leaked its upcoming Xbox-branded handheld device, codenamed Project Kennan. First reported by 91mobiles and noticed by Eurogamer, two images of the ASUS ROG Ally 2 — one in white and another in black — appear to have surfaced through Indonesia’s certification body, which linked to (now-deleted) a U.S. FCC listing.
Both models feature Xbox-style buttons (Y, B, A, and X), but the black variant stands out as it showcases what seems to be an Xbox button positioned to the left of the thumbstick, though it lacks a distinct 'X'. Tech specs remain unclear at this stage, leaving the differences between the two color variants uncertain.
According to Windows Central's Jez Corden, the devices are reportedly being tested at Microsoft headquarters, hinting at a possible unveiling around May 20.
Earlier last month, ASUS' Republic of Gamers (ROG) account teased both a controller and handheld system, prompting an acknowledgment from the official Xbox Twitter with a playful reaction. This aligns with previous reports from IGN suggesting Microsoft plans to release its own Xbox-branded handheld later in 2025, alongside a next-generation Xbox set for 2027.
Phil Spencer, head of Microsoft Gaming, has mentioned that a first-party Xbox handheld is still several years away. Meanwhile, production of the successor to the Xbox Series X is reportedly underway, with Xbox president Sarah Bond emphasizing Microsoft's commitment to delivering a groundbreaking technological leap in its next-gen hardware.
