Avowed's Character Creation: A Deep Dive into Backgrounds
Avowed boasts a rich character creator, allowing players to customize their character's appearance and select a Background that provides a unique backstory and narrative arc. This guide details each Background and its impact on gameplay.
Avowed offers five distinct Backgrounds, each influencing dialogue options and providing a specific starting weapon. However, all equipment and abilities remain accessible regardless of chosen Background.
The Five Backgrounds:

Arcane Scholar: This scholarly character hails from Bragganhyl Academy, their treatise on soul lineages causing conflict with a local lord. Imprisoned, they were recruited by the Emperor for the imperial archives. Expect dialogue options reflecting knowledge of the occult, law, history, and poetry.

Court Augur: A tragic past and mystical abilities mark this Background. Villagers' suspicion, fueled by failed crops and unusual insights, led to their flight to Highcrown. The Emperor appointed them as a personal mystic. Expect spiritually-focused dialogue options, ideal for players envisioning a wizard-like character. This Background aligns well with the Giatta companion.

Noble Scion: The Living Lands' equivalent of a privileged but flawed individual, born into wealth and influence but facing family downfall due to scandal. Seeking the Emperor's favor, they become a valuable ally. This is perfect for players loyal to the Empire.

Vanguard Scout: Spared execution, this character values wilderness over city life and politics. Their tracking and spying skills make them an asset to the Empire. This Background suits players preferring a hunter-style approach and aligns well with the Marius companion.

War Hero: Their bravery in quelling a Skaenite uprising earned them a place among elite warriors. Loyalty and grit define this character, ideal for players favoring a warrior roleplay style and potentially connecting with the Kai companion.
Starting Weapons:
Each Background offers a Common-quality, one-handed melee weapon:
