Bethesda has finally addressed Starfield's future, confirming ongoing updates and teasing exciting new content details to be revealed in the upcoming months.
The Starfield community has grown increasingly frustrated with Bethesda's lack of communication regarding the game's roadmap, especially after its absence from June's Xbox Games Showcase disappointed many fans.
While showcasing updates for The Elder Scrolls Online and Fallout 76, Xbox's June event completely overlooked Starfield - no DLC announcements, expansion plans, or PlayStation 5 version updates were shared.
Ahead of August's Gamescom, Bethesda broke its silence with a concise Steam statement confirming active development on new Starfield content while remaining intentionally vague about specifics.
"We're currently developing future updates and will share details about our exciting Starfield plans in the coming months," Bethesda announced alongside the Steam beta release of Update 1.15.222.
The community speculates this could mean Bethesda will fulfill its promised second expansion and potentially follow Forza Horizon 5's cross-platform expansion to PlayStation 5.

Despite launching as Bethesda's first new IP in 25 years (September 2023), Starfield struggled to match the acclaim of Fallout or The Elder Scrolls franchises. Its September 2024 Shattered Space expansion currently maintains a 'mostly negative' Steam review rating.
While reaching 15 million players, concerns persist about Bethesda potentially abandoning Starfield. June 2024 assurances confirmed ongoing support, including at least one additional story expansion following Shattered Space. Todd Howard revealed ambitions for yearly expansions continuing "hopefully a very long time."
Recent Microsoft layoffs significantly impacted Bethesda, including cuts at its London office and ZeniMax Online Studios, cancellation of an unannounced MMORPG, and veteran leadership departures.
