Mobile premium game updates usually improve optimization or compatibility. However, Capcom's recent update for Resident Evil 7 biohazard, Resident Evil 4 Remake, and Resident Evil Village on iOS and iPadOS introduces an online DRM system. This DRM verifies purchase history upon game launch, checking for ownership of the game and any DLC. Rejecting the check closes the game. While this process takes only a few seconds with an internet connection, it completely removes the ability to play offline. This is a significant drawback, rendering previously offline-playable games unplayable without an internet connection.

Pre-update testing confirmed offline playability. Post-update, the DRM check prevents offline access. While this might not bother all players, the forced online check on every launch for already purchased games is concerning. Ideally, Capcom should implement a less intrusive purchase verification method, perhaps checking less frequently. This update negatively impacts the recommendation of Capcom's premium mobile ports.

The games offer free trials. Download Resident Evil 7 biohazard here (iOS, iPadOS, macOS), Resident Evil 4 Remake here (App Store), and Resident Evil Village here. Read my reviews here, here, and here.
