PC gaming is typically associated with keyboard and mouse controls, particularly for genres like first-person shooters and strategy games that demand precision. However, some PC games are actually enhanced by using a controller. Games emphasizing fast-paced action, reflex-based movement, or melee combat often benefit from a gamepad's intuitive controls. This is especially true for titles originating on consoles before making their way to PC.
While many PC releases offer keyboard and mouse support, certain genres lend themselves better to controllers. Recent releases like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Infinity Nikki, Marvel Rivals, Path of Exile 2, and Delta Force are generally considered superior with keyboard and mouse. Even Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver 1&2 Remastered, while playable with a gamepad, doesn't show a significant advantage.
Several upcoming PC games, however, appear primed for controller use:
- Freedom Wars Remastered: A PS Vita port similar to Monster Hunter, suggesting controller compatibility.
- Tales of Graces f Remastered: The Tales series consistently plays better with gamepads.
- Final Fantasy VII Rebirth: Given the similar combat system to its controller-friendly predecessor, this remake is likely better suited to a gamepad.
- Marvel's Spider-Man 2: As a PS5 port, it's expected to prioritize controller input, though keyboard and mouse may still be viable.
A 2024 Soulslike game has also been included in this updated list. See the link below for details.
