To achieve the best ending in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, completing specific tasks is crucial, including the rescue of Sam. Here's a detailed guide on how to find and save Sam during the "Reckoning" quest, which is integral to achieving the optimal conclusion.
Rescuing Sam During "Reckoning"
As you approach the culmination of the main quest line, you'll discover that Sam is being held captive at Praguer's Camp, captured by Brabant. Your opportunity to save him comes during the "Reckoning" quest. To infiltrate the camp, you have two main options: stealth or combat.
To move around the camp undetected, you'll need a guard's outfit. One method is to eliminate a guard, take his outfit, and conceal his body. Alternatively, you might find an outfit by looting chests scattered throughout the camp. Once you're dressed appropriately, you can freely explore the camp in search of Sam.

Sam is located in a barn on the left side of the camp, beyond the area with a cooking fire. Access the barn by using the ladder on its side and dropping down inside, where you'll confront Brabant. Here, you face a critical decision: to kill or spare Brabant. Choosing to spare him aligns with the path to the best ending, though the final choice is yours.
When to Rescue Sam
After freeing Sam, it's not yet time to escape the camp with him. He'll inform you about von Aulitz, who is also within the camp. It's advisable to deal with von Aulitz first, then secure a horse, and finally return to Sam for the escape. Sam can wait safely in the barn while you complete these tasks.
Von Aulitz is in the central area of the camp. Wearing the guard's outfit allows you to enter his location without challenge. You'll find von Aulitz on the brink of death, requesting a dignified end. Granting his wish is the most honorable action, though you can also choose to kill him mercilessly or leave him to suffer, which surprisingly contributes to the best ending.
Once you've handled von Aulitz, retrieve Sam from the barn. If questioned by a guard, simply state you're moving a body to avoid suspicion. Exit the camp, turn right, and follow the perimeter to reach the stables.
