NieR: Automata offers a wide array of weapons, allowing players to experiment with different weapon types across multiple playthroughs. Each weapon boasts multiple upgrade levels, extending their usefulness and potentially making them viable throughout the entire game.
Weapon upgrades are readily available at the Resistance Camp, but require specific resources. One crucial material, Beast Hides, isn't readily obtained; this guide details efficient farming methods.
Obtaining Beast Hides in NieR: Automata
Beast Hides are dropped by wildlife such as moose and boar. These creatures appear randomly in designated map areas, generally avoiding players and nearby robots. Their white icons on the mini-map distinguish them from the black icons of machines. However, unlike machines, wildlife doesn't respawn frequently, requiring strategic searching.
Moose and boar are exclusive to the game's ruined city and forest environments. An animal's level relative to the player determines its behavior; lower-level animals flee, while higher-level ones may attack or become aggressive if approached. Wildlife possesses substantial health, making early-game encounters challenging, especially against higher-level creatures.
Animal Bait can lure wildlife closer, simplifying the hunting process.
Since wildlife doesn't continuously respawn during the main storyline, players must hunt them during exploration. Wildlife and machine respawn mechanics are similar:
- Fast traveling resets all enemies and wildlife.
- Traveling a sufficient distance triggers respawning in previous areas.
- Story progression can also trigger respawning of nearby enemies and wildlife.
Efficient Beast Hide farming isn't easily achieved. The most effective strategy involves eliminating all encountered wildlife while exploring the forest and city ruins. Beast Hides have a relatively high drop rate, ensuring sufficient quantities for weapon upgrades, provided you avoid upgrading more weapons than you can equip simultaneously.
