Disneyland and Walt Disney World are significantly revamping their Genie+ ride reservation system starting July, introducing several key improvements. The most notable change is the ability to book Lightning Lane reservations before arriving at the parks. This pre-arrival booking option will be available up to seven days in advance for Disney resort guests and three days for other visitors.
The Genie+ system itself is being rebranded as "Lightning Lane Multi-Pass," with individual Lightning Lane selections becoming "Lightning Lane Single Passes." This renaming accompanies a boost in the number of reservations guests can make concurrently. The existing Virtual Queue system, utilized for attractions like Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and TRON Lightcycle / Run, will remain unchanged.
These updates aim to address widespread guest concerns regarding the current system, which many found cumbersome and inconvenient due to its same-day booking requirement. The new system merges elements of the former FastPass+ and current Genie+ systems, offering guests more flexibility and pre-planning capabilities. This change directly responds to feedback regarding the need for more streamlined park planning.
While Walt Disney World will experience the full range of enhancements, Disneyland will primarily see the name change, with the booking process remaining largely the same. All attractions currently offered via Genie+ will transition to the Lightning Lane Multi-Pass system, including the newly opened Tiana's Bayou Adventure at Disney World. The impact of these alterations on guest satisfaction and park operations remains to be seen, but Disney clearly aims to enhance the guest experience through greater pre-planning options. The changes could prove especially beneficial during peak seasons and special events.
