Evil Dead: The Game, the asymmetric multiplayer title inspired by the iconic action horror franchise, has been officially removed from digital storefronts by its publisher. Launched in 2022 across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, the game received an 8/10 rating from IGN, with reviewers noting its thrilling gameplay despite some rough edges, mirroring the spirit of the films it was based on.
Despite the release of a Game of the Year Edition in the following year, the game struggled to maintain its player base. The cancellation of the Nintendo Switch version and the halt of content development in September 2023 signaled ongoing challenges. Now, three years post-launch, Evil Dead: The Game has been delisted, though existing players can continue to enjoy the game as the servers will remain active.
Saber Interactive, the game's developer and publisher, announced the delisting on the game’s Steam page, stating:
We can confirm we've begun the process of removing the game from digital storefronts. Anyone who has purchased the game will still be able to play it as we plan to keep our servers online for everyone.
We want to extend a sincere thank you to our community, to those who have been part of the game from the very beginning, and those who have recently joined us. We appreciate all of your support.
The decision has been met with disappointment from the community, as reflected in numerous negative reviews on the game's Steam page. Many players feel that the game is now effectively dead, contributing to its overall 'mixed' user review rating.
One player with over 380 hours in the game left a positive review, saying, "The end is nigh. It was fun while it lasted, lads. I mean that."
Saber Interactive, fresh off the success of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, is currently developing several other licensed movie games, including John Carpenter's Toxic Commando, Jurassic Park Survival, an untitled Avatar: The Last Airbender game, Turok: Origins, and Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3.
