Initially, this style was exclusively offered to players using Xbox Series S|X consoles. For a considerable period, Epic Games advertised the style's continued availability. The abrupt announcement of its discontinuation therefore caused significant backlash.
Some players even considered legal action, threatening a class-action lawsuit. However, Epic Games swiftly reversed its decision within 24 hours. The Matte Black style is now available to all Master Chief skin owners who play a single match on an Xbox Series S|X console.
