Tony Hawk Hints at a 25th Anniversary Celebration for Tony Hawk's Pro Skater
The legendary Tony Hawk's Pro Skater franchise is turning 25, and Tony Hawk himself has confirmed that Activision is planning a special anniversary celebration. While details remain scarce, the skateboarding icon recently revealed on Mythical Kitchen that he's been working with Activision on "something" fans will appreciate.
This announcement fuels speculation about a potential new game or the revival of the canceled THPS 3+4 remaster project. The original Tony Hawk's Pro Skater launched on September 29, 1999, and the franchise has enjoyed immense success over the years. The 2020 release of the THPS 1+2 remaster initially hinted at future remasters, but the closure of Vicarious Visions put those plans on hold.
"I wish I could say we have something in the works," Hawk stated in a 2022 Twitch stream, referencing the challenges faced after Vicarious Visions' closure. He confirmed that 3+4 remasters were planned before the studio's dissolution.
The official THPS social media accounts have already begun celebrating the 25th anniversary, sharing new artwork and a giveaway for the THPS 1+2 Collector's Edition. This, coupled with Hawk's recent comments, has ignited rumors of a major announcement, possibly during a speculated Sony State of Play event this month.
Whether this anniversary celebration involves a new game, a continuation of the remaster project, or something else entirely, remains to be seen. One thing is certain: Tony Hawk fans are eagerly anticipating the reveal.
