Hideaki Nishino has been appointed as the sole CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), with his new role set to begin on April 1, 2025. This significant leadership change was announced in a press release this evening, alongside other key executive promotions within Sony.
Sony's current CFO, Hiroki Totoki, will step into the role of president and CEO of the entire Sony Corporation. He succeeds Kenichiro Yoshida, who has led the company since April 2018, following Kazuo Hirai. Additionally, Lin Tao, the Senior Vice President of Finance, Corporate Development, and Strategy, will take on the role of CFO.
Just last year, it was revealed that Nishino and Hermen Hulst would share leadership duties at SIE following the retirement of former CEO Jim Ryan. Hulst was appointed to head PlayStation Studios, while Nishino was tasked with overseeing the hardware and technology aspects. With this recent change, Nishino will now lead the entire SIE operation in addition to heading the platform business group, while Hulst continues his focus on PlayStation Studios.
Nishino, who has been with Sony since 2000, previously held the position of Senior Vice President of the Platform Experience Group.
In his statement, Nishino expressed his honor in taking the helm at SIE, emphasizing the company's strengths in technology and creativity. "Technology and creativity are two of our biggest strengths as we continue to focus on developing experiences that deliver entertainment for everyone," he said. He also highlighted plans to expand the PlayStation community through IP expansion and technological innovation. Nishino extended his gratitude to Hulst for his leadership and to the PlayStation community for their continued support, expressing excitement for the future.
