NetEase's post-apocalyptic survival game, Once Human, launched on PC with a peak concurrent player count of 230,000 on Steam, securing a top-seven spot in sales and a top-five position in most-played games. The mobile version, originally slated for September, has been delayed, but the developers have announced upcoming updates.
These updates include a PvP mode pitting the Mayflies and Rosetta factions against each other, and a new PvE area in a northern mountain region featuring fresh enemies and challenges. Once Human, set in a world ravaged by a cataclysmic event, is one of NetEase's most anticipated titles.
A Concerning Trend?
The 230,000 player peak is notable, but it represents a high point. Average player numbers may be significantly lower. This initial drop-off, especially considering the game's initial Steam wishlist count of over 300,000, could be a cause for concern for NetEase.
NetEase, a mobile game giant, is making a significant push into the PC market. While Once Human boasts impressive graphics and gameplay, a rapid shift in their primary audience might prove challenging.
Despite the delay, the mobile release of Once Human remains highly anticipated. In the meantime, check out our list of the best mobile games of 2024 (so far) and the most anticipated mobile games of the year for other compelling options.
