Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP Surpasses 200,000 Sales Milestone
Released late last year, the Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP remaster has reportedly exceeded 200,000 units sold. This success comes despite initial launch challenges, including technical issues and controversy surrounding censorship. The strong sales figures demonstrate significant player demand for this action-packed title.
Developed by Dragami Games (the original was by Grasshopper Manufacture), the remaster features quality-of-life improvements and a substantial visual upgrade. The game maintains the core gameplay of its predecessor: a vibrant, over-the-top hack-and-slash experience where players, as cheerleader Juliet Starling, battle hordes of zombies with a chainsaw. The combat is reminiscent of titles like Bayonetta.
This sales milestone, announced via a tweet from Dragami Games, encompasses sales across all current and last-gen consoles, plus PC. The achievement is particularly noteworthy several months after the September 2024 release.
Celebrating Success and Looking Ahead
The Lollipop Chainsaw story follows Juliet as she uncovers her zombie-hunting heritage amidst a school-wide undead invasion. The original game, released in 2012 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, achieved even greater success, selling over one million copies. Its popularity likely stemmed from the unique collaboration between Goichi Suda (Grasshopper Manufacture) and James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy), whose contributions shaped the game's narrative.
While there's currently no news regarding potential DLC or a sequel for Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP, its sales performance bodes well for future remasters of cult classic games. This positive trend is further exemplified by the recent release of Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered, another Grasshopper Manufacture title updated for modern platforms.
