Jason Momoa's portrayal of Lobo, the notorious alien mercenary and bounty hunter, is set to make a thrilling debut in the 2026 DC Universe movie Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Lobo, a character known for his superhuman strength and immortality, hails from the now-defunct planet Czarnia, making him the last of his kind, much like Superman. Created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, Lobo first appeared in Omega Men #3 in 1983.
Momoa, who previously brought Aquaman to life in the discontinued DC Extended Universe (DCEU), is excited to step into the role of Lobo in the rebooted DC Universe (DCU). He has expressed that Lobo is his favorite comic book character, citing aesthetic similarities between himself and the character as a key reason for his eagerness to take on the role.
From Aquaman to Lobo, Jason Momoa is crossing DC universes.
In an interview with ScreenRant, Momoa gave fans a glimpse of what to expect from Lobo's appearance in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. He emphasized his passion for the character, stating, "Well, this is the role I've always wanted to play. That’s the comic I loved, so I'm really nervous about it. It’s kind of a no-brainer to play this character. It's pretty big. I don't want to give away too much, but I mean, we look pretty dead on, exactly like the character, and he’s pretty rough and gruff and… I'll say the bike’s really cool."
When asked about the extent of Lobo's screen time, Momoa clarified that the film primarily focuses on Supergirl, saying, "It’s her movie, so it's great. I just come in for a little bit."
In January, DC co-chief James Gunn unveiled the first image of Milly Alcock as Supergirl, though it didn't reveal much about the character. Gunn also announced via a post on Bluesky that filming had commenced on *Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow*, with House of the Dragon's Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl. The movie draws significant inspiration from the graphic novel by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira, which follows an alien girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll seeking revenge for her father's murder with the help of Supergirl against the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills.
The cast includes Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem, Eve Ridley as Ruthye, David Krumholtz as Supergirl's father Zor-El, Emily Beecham as Supergirl's mother, and, of course, Jason Momoa as Lobo.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is slated for release in June 2026, marking it as the second film in the new DCU following James Gunn's Superman, which premieres this summer. The DCU's Clayface movie is scheduled to follow in September 2026.
