Described as a detective drama reminiscent of "True Detective" and "Slow Horses," "Lanterns" follows Jordan and Stewart as they investigate a murder that spirals into a far more complex and sinister conspiracy. The series is officially part of James Gunn's expanded DC universe, sharing continuity with projects like "Creature Commando" and the upcoming "Superman" and "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" films.
The series, developed by Damon Lindelof (known for "Lost"), Chris Mundy, and Tom King, promises a darker, grittier take on the Green Lantern mythos. Gunn himself describes the tone as "very grounded, very believable, very real," a departure from typical Green Lantern portrayals.
Chandler, renowned for his role in "Friday Night Lights," portrays an older Hal Jordan, while Aaron Pierre, whose credits include "Rebel Ridge," takes on the role of John Stewart. A 2026 premiere is currently targeted, coinciding with the release of the "Supergirl" film.
