Marvel Comics' flagship Star Wars series is set for a May 2025 relaunch. Picking up after the Battle of Jakku and the conclusion of the Galactic Civil War, the new series will follow Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa as they strive to establish the New Republic and bring order to a galaxy still reeling from conflict.
Alex Segura, fresh from his Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku miniseries, pens the new volume. Veteran Star Wars artist Phil Noto (Star Wars: Poe Dameron) provides the illustrations, with Noto and Leinil Yu contributing cover art for the debut issue.
Set approximately two years post-Return of the Jedi, Segura and Noto's Star Wars depicts the New Republic's struggle to solidify its power. Amidst this hopeful new era, opportunistic pirates, criminals, and other antagonists exploit the power vacuum, presenting fresh challenges for Luke and his allies.
"Having concluded the Galactic Civil War with the Battle of Jakku, we can now propel ourselves into an uncharted era, introducing new galactic threats, adversaries, and mysteries for our heroes to confront," Segura explained to StarWars.com. "These narratives will be action-packed, featuring the character-driven moments Star Wars fans expect, with fresh spins on familiar locations. We've ensured accessibility, making it easy for readers to jump in at any point. We're incredibly excited."
Noto added, "Alex's writing is superb, and he's crafted compelling storylines and characters for this series. I'm thrilled to bring them to life! It's been a rewarding experience to depict the classic characters in the post-Return of the Jedi era, as there are no existing film or TV counterparts. I'm creating new visual interpretations while referencing the actors from the 80s to maintain the feel of the period."
Star Wars #1 launches May 7, 2025, coinciding with Star Wars Day celebrations.
