Elden Ring Nightreign Duos Mod Shown by Modder

by Nicholas Jun 21,2026

The dedication of the modding community never fails to impress. Elden Ring Nightreign is finally here, and within a single day of its release, a prominent FromSoftware modder has already previewed a functional two-player mod.

Luke Yui, known for creating popular co-op modifications for titles like Elden Ring and Armored Core VI, shared a brief demonstration on their YouTube channel. The video showcases a mod for Nightreign that enables seamless two-player cooperation, offering an alternative to the game's default solo or three-player options.

It's crucial to clarify that this is currently a proof-of-concept demonstration from Yui, not a publicly available mod. They explained that the mod operates independently of the official matchmaking servers. This allows for compatibility with other gameplay mods but means you're not playing through the standard online infrastructure. Whether this evolves into a full-fledged solution remains to be seen.

While Elden Ring Nightreign supports solo play and three-player teams, it lacks a dedicated two-player mode. This forces duos to either play solo or find a random third teammate through matchmaking. It may seem like a minor inconvenience, but for players who prefer to adventure with just one trusted companion, it's a notable point of friction.

This design choice has become a significant point of discussion in the game's early reception. The absence of a duos option is frequently mentioned in critical early reviews, and many players are expressing frustration with the limitation. As noted by a user on the Elden Ring subreddit, the dedicated Nightreign community board is currently filled with posts from pairs seeking a single additional player to complete their team.

In a conversation with IGN, Elden Ring Nightreign director Junya Ishizaki acknowledged the oversight, stating the team "initially overlooked the duos aspect." However, he confirmed the development team is aware of the feedback and is evaluating the possibility of adding two-player support after launch. Given the overwhelming demand, it's a request that's undoubtedly on their radar.
