The upcoming Monopoly movie from Lionsgate has enlisted the talented writing duo of John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, known for their work on Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. Announced today, Daley and Goldstein are set to pen the screenplay for this adaptation of Hasbro's iconic board game. The film will be brought to life under the production of Margot Robbie's company, LuckyChap.
In addition to their work on Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, Daley and Goldstein have recently written and directed their original film, Mayday. Their impressive resume also includes writing credits on blockbuster hits like The Flash and Spider-Man: Homecoming.
The journey to bring Monopoly to the big screen has been long and winding. Discussions about a Monopoly movie date back to 2007 when Ridley Scott showed interest in directing. In 2011, Scott enlisted Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski to write the script, but that project never materialized. Another attempt in 2015 saw Lionsgate and Hasbro collaborating on a version penned by Andrew Niccol, followed by reports in 2019 that actor Kevin Hart and director Tim Story were set to be involved.
However, with Lionsgate's recent acquisition of eOne from Hasbro, a fresh start has been given to the Monopoly film project. This new endeavor, led by Daley and Goldstein, promises to finally bring the beloved game to life on the big screen. Here's hoping this version successfully passes Go and delivers a cinematic experience that fans of the game will enjoy.
