"Suits" has remained a beloved series, captivating fans since its debut on USA in 2011. Its resurgence, thanks to its availability on Netflix, sparked numerous binge-watching marathons. However, the recent spin-off, "Suits LA," couldn't ride the wave of its predecessor's success. Launched with high hopes, it was abruptly canceled after just one season as NBC unveiled its fall schedule. Jeff Bader, the brand's president of program planning strategy, shed light on the decision to pull the plug.
"It’s incredibly challenging to decide which shows to renew," Bader stated in an interview with Variety. "Suits LA had a brief run, but unfortunately, it didn't connect with audiences as we anticipated."
Speculation abounds on why "Suits LA" didn't resonate, but Bader emphasized that the show simply didn't demonstrate the potential for future growth. "We had to evaluate the performance across both linear and digital platforms," he added. "We made tough choices, looking at stability and growth potential. Some shows were on the rise, while others were not."

Bader further noted that NBCUniversal considers moving canceled shows to Peacock, their streaming service. Unfortunately, "Suits LA" did not receive the nod for such a transition.
In contrast, the criteria for retaining shows on the network involved analyzing weekly and episodic performance across both linear and digital formats. "We aimed to identify the shows with the strongest ratings narrative," Bader explained. "On the creative front, our teams assessed which series had the greatest potential to attract new viewers. This analysis led us to prioritize certain shows."
The original "Suits" series aired for nine seasons from 2011 to 2019. The revival, "Suits LA," premiered in February, featuring stars like Stephen Amell, Lex Scott Davis, Josh McDermitt, and Bryan Greenberg. The spin-off also welcomed back original cast members such as Rick Hoffman, David Costabile, and Gabriel Macht. Aaron Korsh, the creator of the original "Suits," took the helm as the creator and executive producer of "Suits LA," which aired its final episode on May 11, 2025.
