Acquiring upgrade materials in NieR: Automata can be challenging. Many drop from enemies, but some, like Filler Metal, appear randomly in the environment. This means a degree of luck is involved in farming these items.
Filler Metal is a crucial upgrade material. Early in the game, you'll need to find it in the overworld; however, be prepared for a lengthy search. Later, you can purchase it, although it's expensive.
Where To Find Filler Metal In NieR: Automata
Filler Metal is a rare item found in random spawn locations deep within the Factory. Its spawn rate is lower than other items. After accessing the Factory: Hanger access point during the main story, you can fast travel there, making it an ideal starting point for your search. You may need to unlock this access point again depending on your story progress.
While movement speed boosts can help, reliably farming Filler Metal is impossible. Your best strategy is to thoroughly explore the Factory, collecting all naturally spawned items. However, purchasing it remains the most efficient method if you have the resources.
Where To Buy Filler Metal In NieR: Automata
Filler Metal is only sold by the Shopkeeper Machine in the Amusement Park, but only after completing all three playthroughs and obtaining one of the final endings. Using Chapter Select to revisit the Shopkeeper after completing the game will reveal Filler Metal in their inventory, priced at 11,250 G each.
This high cost is offset by its reliability compared to farming in the Factory. Since Pod upgrades requiring Filler Metal are essential for defeating high-level enemies, purchasing it is often the more practical approach.
