NieR: Automata - Where To Get Pristine Screws

Quick Links

Acquiring certain crafting materials in NieR: Automata proves significantly more challenging than others. While not visually distinct, some resources, like the Pristine Screw, are exceptionally rare.

Although purchasable from Emil, his stock fluctuates, making direct acquisition from machines a potentially faster and cheaper alternative. Here are two farming strategies:

Where To Find Pristine Screws in NieR: Automata

Goliath-Bipeds, the largest non-boss machines, drop various screws, with Pristine Screws being the rarest. Higher-level Goliath-Bipeds yield a better drop rate; early-game acquisition is practically impossible.

Several locations reliably spawn Goliath-Bipeds. The pit where you first encounter Adam is one such spot, also ideal for farming Machine Arms. However, the Goliath-Bipeds here are around level 30, resulting in a lower Pristine Screw drop rate. The advantage is their constant respawn, ensuring consistent farming.

Alternatively, during the third playthrough, fast travel to the Forest Castle: Front access point. Two level 49 Goliath-Bipeds guard the entrance, offering a higher drop chance. However, these don't respawn; you'll need to fast travel to a distant location and return to repeat the process.

Both methods benefit from a drop-rate boosting plug-in chip.

Optimal Farming Strategy

The best method depends on two key factors:

  • System Load Times: The speed at which your system loads affects the efficiency of each method.
  • Player Patience: Farming Pristine Screws requires significant time investment.

The Forest method offers a higher drop rate but involves frequent loading screens, minimizing actual gameplay. Choose this if load times are negligible and you prioritize efficiency. The pit method provides continuous gameplay, allowing simultaneous farming of other materials and XP, making it ideal for players who prefer consistent action and less downtime.
