Nintendo Responds to CES 2025 Switch 2 Leaks: "Not Official"
Nintendo has issued an unusual statement regarding the recent flurry of Switch 2 leaks stemming from CES 2025. A company representative confirmed that the images circulating online are not official Nintendo materials, emphasizing Nintendo's absence from this year's CES. This rare public acknowledgement of leaks is noteworthy, given Nintendo's typically tight-lipped approach.
The Switch 2 has been the subject of numerous leaks since late 2024, coinciding with reports of the console entering mass production. Accessory manufacturer Genki's display of a purported Switch 2 replica at CES 2025 further fueled speculation, with images quickly spreading across social media.
In response to inquiries from the Sankei Shimbun, Nintendo directly addressed Genki's replica, stating unequivocally that the images and videos are "not official." The company reiterated its non-participation in CES 2025, clarifying that any Switch 2 imagery from the show lacks official endorsement.
Genki's Replica: Accurate or Not?
While Nintendo didn't comment on the replica's accuracy, its design aligns with previous leaks and rumors. The most significant difference from the original Switch is the addition of a new button below the right Joy-Con's home button, labeled "C," with its function currently unknown. The replica also appears slightly larger than its predecessor.
Genki CEO Eddie Tsai, while unable to shed light on the "C" button, offered additional details. He suggested the Switch 2 Joy-Cons will use magnetic attachments instead of sliding rails and hinted at mouse-like functionality for the controllers—claims echoed by other sources.
Nintendo's previous statements indicate a Switch 2 reveal within fiscal year 2024 (ending March 31, 2025). With approximately 80 days remaining, anticipation remains high. A retail release is unlikely before the second quarter of 2025, with a rumored price point around $399.
