Nintendo has officially confirmed that the mysterious new button on the Nintendo Switch 2's Joy-Con is indeed the "C" button, as rumors had suggested. This confirmation comes via the newly announced and released Nintendo Today! app, where the button's labeling is clearly visible in the promotional images on both the App Store and Google Play.
The C button was first revealed alongside the Nintendo Switch 2 earlier this year, but initial images did not show any letter on the button. Subsequent reports hinted at its designation as the "C" button, which has now been verified.

Speculation about the C button's function is rife. Some believe it could be related to wirelessly casting the Switch 2 to a TV or facilitating screen sharing. Others speculate it might toggle the Joy-Con's functionality, such as switching to a mouse mode. There's also talk that it might enhance new group or voice chat features.
Nintendo has scheduled a Switch 2 Direct for April 2, where we hope to learn more about the C button's purpose. Here's what we know about the Nintendo Switch 2 so far:
- Nintendo Switch 2 is slated for release in 2025, likely not before June, based on the hands-on event schedule.
- The console is larger than its predecessor, featuring larger Joy-Con that may function as a mouse.
- It includes two USB-C ports, one at the top and one at the bottom, unlike the original Switch which had only one.
- The Nintendo Switch 2 is backward compatible, capable of playing both physical and digital Nintendo Switch games, as well as Switch 2 exclusive titles. However, some Nintendo Switch games might not be fully compatible.
- A new Mario Kart game is being developed specifically for the Nintendo Switch 2.
