During today’s Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo revealed that while the vast majority of the Nintendo Switch library will be compatible with the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, a select group of titles are receiving enhanced "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" upgrades—bringing new features, improved performance, and exclusive content.
Highlighted games include The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and Mario Party: Jamboree. Each Switch 2 Edition offers unique enhancements tailored to the game’s experience.
First showcased was Super Mario Party: Jamboree, now featuring an upgrade titled "Jamboree TV". This new mode introduces mouse controls, audio recognition functionality, enhanced rumble feedback for more immersive gameplay, and interactive elements utilizing the Nintendo Switch 2’s new camera accessory.
Next, Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom received a visual and functional overhaul. Both titles now support higher resolution, improved framerates, and HDR for a more vibrant and responsive experience. Additionally, these games will integrate with a new service in the Nintendo Switch Online app called Zelda Notes. This feature offers voice-guided navigation to help locate Shrines and Koroks, as well as the ability to share player-created builds from Tears of the Kingdom via QR codes with friends.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is getting a major boost with a brand-new exclusive storyline titled Star-Crossed World, available only on Nintendo Switch 2. The game also benefits from enhanced graphics and smoother framerates, making the adventure more polished than ever.
Newly announced titles are also receiving Switch 2 Edition upgrades. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will support mouse controls, run in 4K at 60fps, and include HDR support for deeper contrast and richer visuals. Pokemon Legends: Z-A will see improvements in resolution and performance, ensuring a seamless battle experience on the upgraded hardware.
All Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games will be available in both physical and digital formats. For select titles—including Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Mario Party: Jamboree, and Kirby and the Forgotten Land—upgrade packs will be available for purchase, allowing players who already own the original versions to upgrade their copy.
