"Oblivion Remastered's Top Mod Boosts PC Performance"

by Max May 13,2025

If you're among the countless fans of *The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered* on PC, you may have encountered several issues with the game. According to the technical analysts at Digital Foundry, Oblivion Remastered is plagued with severe performance problems. Video producer Alex Battaglia described it as "perhaps one of the worst-running games I've ever tested for Digital Foundry."

"Even if you're equipped with the most powerful hardware available, the stuttering is so severe that it significantly detracts from the gaming experience, making it baffling how this was deemed suitable for release," Battaglia remarked.

"In addition to the stuttering, this game is unusually demanding on system resources. Even if you can tolerate the choppy performance, you'll likely need to lower the settings just to maintain an acceptable frame rate," he added.

PlayIt's no wonder, then, that the most popular mod for Oblivion Remastered on Nexus Mods is P40L0’s ‘Ultimate Engine Tweaks (Anti-Stutters - Lower Latency - No Film Grain - No Chromatic Aberration - Lossless),’ which has seen an astonishing 386,604 downloads in less than a week.

The mod's description reads: "Definitive Unreal ‘Engine.ini’ changes aimed at eliminating most stutters, enhancing performance and stability, reducing input latency, and improving visual clarity—all without any visual compromise."

"After months of testing with UE5, I'm excited to share my definitive custom ‘Engine.ini’ tweaks for the game," P40L0 explained.

"My objective was to incorporate as many optimizations as possible for CPU, GPU, RAM, and SSD to eradicate most stuttering, boost performance, minimize input latency, and enhance picture quality (e.g., by eliminating Film Grain and Chromatic Aberration, optimizing DLSS/FSR upscaling, and more) without causing any visual loss, glitches, or crashes."

The feedback from users who have downloaded the mod has been overwhelmingly positive. "Stutter be gone! Simply amazing, thanks!" exclaimed chubbyd07. "This .ini is a miracle. From 15-20 fps outside the prison to 65-70 stable. Running on 3600XT and a 2060 with 20GB of RAM (yes)," added yeeto51. "Uhm, what the hell! I went from 60fps on High Preset around Waynon Priory to 90-110fps on the same location. Wizardry!!" said BabaSmith.

Despite these PC-specific issues, Oblivion Remastered remains incredibly popular, boasting an impressive peak concurrent player count on Steam and over 4 million players across all platforms. On Steam, the game holds a 'very positive' user review rating.

However, a recent hotfix released on April 25 has caused issues for Microsoft Store players, particularly affecting their ability to adjust UI settings for graphics, such as upscaling and anti-aliasing. At the time of this article’s publication, Microsoft Store users (those playing via Game Pass for PC) are unable to modify these settings due to the issue. Bethesda has acknowledged the problem and is working on a fix.
