Palworld developer Pocketpair is gearing up for an exciting crossplay update, slated for release in late March 2025. In a recent post on X/Twitter, the studio confirmed that this update will introduce multiplayer functionality across all platforms, along with the addition of world transfer for Pals. While specific details remain under wraps, a promotional image was shared, showcasing a group of Palworld characters engaged in battle with a formidable Pal.
John 'Bucky' Buckley, Pocketpair's Communications Director and Publishing Manager, hinted at "a few little surprises" that will accompany the March update, adding an extra layer of anticipation for fans. This news is particularly exciting for the 32 million players who have embraced Palworld since its early access launch in January 2024. The studio has outlined a comprehensive content roadmap for 2025, which includes not only crossplay but also an "ending scenario" and additional new content for the immensely popular creature-catching survival game.
Since its launch on Steam for $30 and its simultaneous debut on Game Pass for Xbox and PC, Palworld has shattered sales and concurrent player number records. Pocketpair's CEO, Takuro Mizobe, admitted that the game's launch was so successful that the developer struggled to manage the massive profits it generated. In response, Pocketpair quickly moved to leverage Palworld's breakout success by signing a deal with Sony to establish Palworld Entertainment, a new venture aimed at expanding the IP and bringing the game to the PS5.
However, the game's success has not been without challenges. Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have filed a lawsuit against Pocketpair, seeking "an injunction against infringement and compensation for damages" due to alleged infringement on "multiple" patent rights. In response, Pocketpair has identified the patents in question and made adjustments to how players summon Pals in the game. The studio remains steadfast, vowing to defend its position in court, stating, "We will continue to assert our position in this case through future legal proceedings."
