In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, you face the choice between two horses: Pebbles and Herring. Let's break down the advantages of each to help you make an informed decision.
How to Find Pebbles in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2
You can reunite with Pebbles at the Semine estate before the wedding between Lord Semine and Agnes. She's available at the stables, but you'll need to purchase her to ride her during your quest with Jan Semine, known as "The Jaunt." Pebbles is not just any horse; she's Henry's trusted companion, akin to Mutt, another loyal friend you can find through side quests.
How to Receive Herring in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2
After completing the quest "For Whom the Bell Tolls," you have the option to take Herring as your new horse. If you haven't acquired Pebbles or another horse by this point, Herring is given to you by Otto von Bergow. If you already have a horse and don't want Herring, you can sell him to nomad traders for 300 Groschen through a deal with Kabat.

At first glance, Herring might seem like the superior choice due to his higher base stats. However, the game's mechanics reveal a different story. Each horse unlocks a perk after being ridden for a certain distance, which boosts its stats. This means that horses with initially higher stats don't necessarily remain the best choice throughout the game.
Pebbles, despite having lower initial stats, becomes the top horse after her perk is unlocked. After riding her for 35 kilometers, her stats are boosted to:
- 217 stamina
- 353 capacity
- 53 speed
- 12 courage
In comparison, Herring's perk is unlocked after 50 kilometers. Pebbles can be acquired for free, making her not only a sentimental choice but also a practical one due to her earlier perk unlock and decent boosted stats.
Given the extensive travel you'll undertake in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, choosing Pebbles is a wise decision. She's reliable, cost-effective, and her perk is unlocked more quickly than Herring's, making her the best horse for Henry's journey.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is available now on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
