Following the announcement of the Nintendo Switch 2, it appears that the collaboration between Nintendo and Xbox is set to continue seamlessly. Phil Spencer, Microsoft's head of gaming, recently expressed his ongoing support for the Switch platform, emphasizing its role in reaching gamers who are not part of the Xbox or PC ecosystems.
In a recent interview with Variety, Spencer was questioned about potential projects for the Nintendo Switch 2. He responded by affirming that just as Xbox has supported the original Switch, it intends to extend the same support to the Switch 2.
"Nintendo has been an excellent partner. We see it as a unique opportunity to connect with players who aren't PC gamers or Xbox users," Spencer stated. "It enables us to expand our community and engage with fans of our franchises, which is crucial for us to continue investing in our games."
"I’m a firm believer in what Nintendo brings to the gaming industry, and our continued support for them is something I value greatly," Spencer added. "Receiving support from Nintendo for our franchises is an essential part of our future strategy."Spencer has consistently voiced his support for the Nintendo Switch 2, praising Nintendo's innovative approach since the initial teaser of the console. He also confirmed Xbox's commitment to broadening the availability of its games across various platforms, including PlayStation, Steam, and Nintendo's consoles.
When asked by Variety if the Switch 2's reveal spurred any urgency in announcing Xbox's next console plans, Spencer remained unfazed.
"No. I think all of us in the industry should concentrate on nurturing our communities and the player base we're building," Spencer explained. "I draw inspiration from what other creators and platform holders are doing. However, I have confidence in our planned direction."
The Xbox executive reiterated the company's commitment to making their games accessible "in as many places as possible," spanning cloud, PC, and consoles. Titles such as Pentiment and Obsidian's Grounded have already been released on Nintendo platforms, and it will be intriguing to see which Xbox games will be available on the Switch 2 upon its official launch.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is scheduled to debut on June 5, 2025. While pre-orders have not yet started, keep an eye on our Switch 2 pre-order hub page for the latest updates on when they might become available.
