Pokémon Sleep's development is transitioning from Select Button to Pokémon Works. This newly established Pokémon Company subsidiary will assume responsibility for future updates and maintenance.
Pokémon Sleep Development Transitioned to Pokémon Works
From Select Button to Pokémon Works
Following the March 2024 launch of Pokémon Works, a new Pokémon Company subsidiary, speculation arose regarding its projects. Now, it's been confirmed that Pokémon Works will oversee the ongoing development and updates of Pokémon Sleep, taking over from Select Button.
An in-app announcement (translated) revealed that development and operation, previously a joint venture between Select Button and The Pokémon Company, will gradually shift to Pokémon Works. This announcement, initially appearing in the Japanese app, hasn't yet been reflected in the global version's news section.
Pokémon Works' current projects remain largely undisclosed. However, their website states that the company is a collaborative venture between The Pokémon Company and Iruka Co., Ltd.
Interestingly, Pokémon Works shares a Tokyo location with ILCA, the studio behind the Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl remakes and a contributor to Pokémon HOME. Pokémon Works' representative director, Takuya Iwasaki, confirmed their involvement in Pokémon HOME development.
While their Pokémon-related history is relatively brief, Pokémon Works aims to “create an experience that makes Pokémon more real… so that everyone can enjoy meeting and adventuring with Pokémon.” The specifics of how this vision will be applied to Pokémon Sleep remain to be seen.
