Pokémon TCG Pocket Players Love and Hate Heartbreaking Time Space Showdown Art

by Zoe Feb 27,2025

The Pokémon Trading Card Game (PTCGP) Space Time Smackdown expansion, released January 30th, features a Weavile ex card depicting a scene that has sparked outrage among players. Specifically, the 2-Star full art card shows a group of Weavile poised to attack an unsuspecting Swinub.

This depiction of potential predation has generated significant online discussion, with Reddit threads expressing concern and even heartbreak over the seemingly brutal scene. Many comments highlight the unexpected violence in a game typically associated with more lighthearted depictions of Pokémon interactions. One Reddit post, garnering nearly 10,000 upvotes, simply exclaims, "NO ! SWINUB LOOK UP !! LOOK UP !!".

However, some fans offer a hopeful interpretation, pointing to the Mamoswine full art card, Swinub's evolution, as a possible happy ending. This card shows Mamoswine seemingly looking upwards, suggesting it may have spotted the Weavile and protected its young.

The Space Time Smackdown expansion, themed around Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, includes 207 cards – fewer than the 286 in Genetic Apex, but with a higher percentage (52 vs 60) of rare alternate art, Star, and Crown rarity cards. The expansion features popular Pokémon like Weavile, Mamoswine, Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina.

Despite the controversy, Creatures Inc. has yet to publicly address the negative reaction to the Weavile card or the trading update released the previous day. While a "Trade Feature Celebration Gift" offering 500 Trade Tokens and 120 Trade Hourglasses was provided, the developer remains silent on fan concerns, including a request for comment from IGN.
