This exciting addition to the Star Wars saga was recently announced by publisher Penguin Random House, promising an engaging narrative centered on fan-favorite characters Finn and Jannah, portrayed by John Boyega and Naomi Ackie, respectively, in the 2019 film.
According to the official synopsis from Penguin Random House, the novel, penned by Kwame Mbalia, dives deep into the aftermath of The Rise of Skywalker. It follows Finn and Jannah as they embark on a mission to rescue a ship full of kidnapped children from the clutches of the First Order. In their quest to stop the First Order officer responsible, the two former stormtroopers confront their own tumultuous pasts as soldiers of the oppressive regime, adding layers of depth to their characters.
This novel marks the first Star Wars project to delve into the universe post-Rise of Skywalker, paving the way for future explorations in this timeline. While Shawn Levy's Star Wars: Starfighter is still eagerly anticipated, it's clear that the Star Wars universe will continue to expand in exciting ways. In an interview with Deadline, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy shed light on the timeline of Levy's project, stating, "It’s all post-[the first] nine. Shawn’s is a standalone Star Wars story that'll take place post-nine, maybe five or six years out." Jonathan Tropper, the writer attached to the project, expressed his enthusiasm to Screen Rant last month, hinting at a sooner-than-expected release. The film's release date was later confirmed at Star Wars Celebration Japan, set for May 28, 2027, with Ryan Gosling confirmed to star.
