Sega Mania: Fan-Made Sonic Game Drops

Sonic Galactic: A Sonic Mania-esque Fan Game

Sonic Galactic, developed by Starteam, is a Sonic the Hedgehog fan game channeling the spirit and style of the critically acclaimed Sonic Mania. The game caters to fans of classic Sonic gameplay and pixel art aesthetics, a style many feel remains timeless despite the franchise's shift towards 3D.

This isn't Starteam's first rodeo; first showcased at the Sonic Amateur Games Expo in 2020, Sonic Galactic has been in development for at least four years. The game imagines a hypothetical 32-bit Sonic title, evoking the feel of a Sega Saturn release. It faithfully recreates the retro 2D platforming experience of the Genesis era while adding unique elements.

New Playable Characters and Expanded Gameplay:

The recently released second demo introduces significant additions. Beyond the classic trio of Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles, players can now control Fang the Sniper (from Sonic Triple Trouble) and a brand-new character, Tunnel the Mole, hailing from Sonic Frontiers. Each character boasts unique level paths, adding replayability and diverse gameplay experiences. The special stages maintain the Sonic Mania feel, challenging players to collect rings within a time limit in a 3D environment.

Gameplay Length and Availability:

While the demo is still in its early stages, a typical playthrough focusing on Sonic's levels takes approximately one hour. Completing the content for the other characters adds another hour or so, resulting in a total playtime of around two hours. This second demo provides a substantial taste of what Sonic Galactic has to offer. The game's homage to Sonic Mania, combined with its new characters and unique level designs, makes it a compelling experience for any Sonic fan.
