The Sims franchise commemorates its 25th anniversary with a spectacular celebration! This includes in-game events, a marathon 25-hour livestream, and the highly anticipated return of two classic titles. Let's delve into the details.
Happy 25th Anniversary, The Sims!
A Celebration Overflowing with Events and Freebies
Players are treated to a plethora of in-game rewards, a star-studded livestream showcasing top Simmers, and the triumphant comeback of The Sims 1 and The Sims 2 on PC.
Kevin Gibson, The Sims Production Director, shared with Xbox Wire, "Our amazing players have proven that nobody captures life quite like The Sims, and we wanted to celebrate this shared journey." He highlighted the game's impact across generations, touching millions of lives. He emphasized that the game's success is entirely due to the unwavering support of players over the past two decades. "Every Simmer, across all the years and diverse ways of playing, is a part of this 25-year adventure, and this is our thank you."
The Sims 1 and The Sims 2 Make a Grand Return
The biggest news? Players can revisit the origins of their Simming adventures! To mark the 25th anniversary, The Sims 1 and The Sims 2, complete with all their DLC, are now available on Steam and the EA store, individually or as a special Birthday Bundle.
This is a significant event for long-time Simmers, as these initial titles were unavailable for purchase for almost a decade. Even with physical copies, running them on modern systems required extensive technical adjustments. EA has eliminated this hurdle by releasing versions fully compatible with current hardware, fulfilling a long-held wish of the community.
In-Game Festivities for The Sims 4 and The Sims FreePlay
The Sims 4 features the "Blast From The Past" event, introducing iconic clothing, furniture, and décor from earlier games. Over four weeks, new items will be released, including neon inflatable chairs, a three-tiered cake, a light-up dance floor, and even retro wired phones.
The Sims FreePlay's Birthday Update transports players back to the series' early 2000s origins. New Live Events ("The One with the Coffee Shop" and "Reality Island"), a velour tracksuit, 25 days of daily gifts, and a Social Town museum showcasing The Sims' history are all part of the update.
A 25-Hour Livestream to Celebrate 25 Years
The anniversary kicked off with a remarkable 25-hour livestream on February 4th. This featured a diverse range of celebrities, streamers, and beloved community creators who share a passion for The Sims. Notable guests included Doja Cat, Latto, Trixie Mattel and Katya, Dan & Phil, Plumbella, Angelo & Lexy, Ironmouse, and many more.
Those who missed the live event can catch the full recording on The Sims' official YouTube and Twitch channels.
