Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, the upcoming kart racer from Sega and Sonic Team, promises the largest roster in series history, boasting iconic characters from the Sonic and Sega universes. A recent PlayStation.blog post revealed exciting new gameplay mechanics and features.
A Massive Roster of Beloved Characters
The game will feature over 23 characters at launch, with more to come post-release. Confirmed characters include Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, the Sonic Riders team (Jet, Wave, Storm), the Deadly Six (Zavok, Zazz), Team Dark (Shadow, Rouge, E-123 Omega), Dr. Eggman and his creations (Egg Pawn, Metal Sonic), Team Chaotix (Vector, Charmy, Espio), and even Blaze, Silver, Cream, and Big.
CrossWorlds: Dynamic Racing Through Multiple Dimensions
Prepare for a revolutionary racing experience with "Travel Rings." These portals transport racers between diverse CrossWorlds in real-time, each offering unique environments, obstacles, and even giant monsters! Expect 24 main tracks and 15 distinct CrossWorlds, each with a theme park-like atmosphere. Dynamic tracks, inspired by Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, will change throughout each race, demanding constant adaptation.
Extensive Customization and High-Octane Action
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds offers unparalleled vehicle customization, allowing players to tweak everything from body parts and wheels to colors and glow effects. Players can also equip their racers with 23 different gadgets to tailor their racing style. The return of Extreme Gear from the Sonic Riders series adds a thrilling hoverboard-based racing option to the mix. With 45 unique vehicles, the game aims to be the ultimate Sonic racing experience. Takashi Iizuka, Sonic Creative Officer, calls it "a great culmination of all the Sonic Racing series games to date."
Closed Network Test: Get in on the Action!
A closed network test exclusively for PlayStation 5 is now open for registration (February 12th-19th, 2025). The test runs from February 21st to 24th, 2025, with participants receiving an exclusive in-game sticker and title for completing a post-test survey.
