Next month, PlayStation Plus subscribers will see a significant change to their gaming library as 22 games are set to be removed on May 20, 2025. Notable titles include Grand Theft Auto 5, Payday 2: Crimewave Edition, and the last playable versions of Sony's first-party titles Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2. These removals highlight a shift in the availability of key games within the service.
PlayStation Plus is a comprehensive online gaming service for PlayStation platforms, offering a range of benefits to its members. These include free monthly games, limited-time trials, online multiplayer access, and exclusive member discounts. Additionally, Extra and Premium members enjoy access to a catalog of hundreds of current and classic games, making it a valuable service for avid gamers.
As reported by Push Square, the removal of these 22 games is particularly noteworthy because it includes two high-profile first-party Sony PS3 games, Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2, from the PS Plus Premium library. These games are no longer available for purchase on the PS Store, making their removal from the PS Plus streaming service a significant loss for players without a working PS3 and copies of these games.

The Resistance series, developed by Insomniac Games, consists of alternate history first-person shooters that followed their successful Ratchet and Clank franchise. The series saw three releases on the PS3 before Insomniac shifted focus to other projects, including Marvel’s Spider-Man and new Ratchet and Clank games. The removal of Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 less than a year after their addition to the library at the end of 2024 is a surprising move by Sony.
While it is uncommon for Sony to remove first-party titles from PS Plus, precedents exist, such as the shock removal of both Horizon games — Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon: Forbidden West — in August 2024. However, unlike the Horizon games, which remained available for purchase, Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 will no longer be accessible on modern consoles after their removal.
Interestingly, Resistance 3 and Resistance: Retribution will continue to be available on the service. Additionally, the PS4 game InFamous: Second Son is also set to leave PS Plus, further impacting the library's offerings.
Insomniac's Resistance series has been inactive for some time. In February, Insomniac founder and outgoing president Ted Price shared that there was significant interest in developing Resistance 4, but the project did not move forward. This series, much like Guerrilla's Killzone, has since been sidelined.
