Hazelight Games has announced that their latest co-op adventure, Split Fiction, has continued its impressive launch by selling 2 million copies within just one week of release. Launched on March 6 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S, the game has quickly established itself as another major success for the studio. Hazelight expressed their astonishment and gratitude on social media, stating they were “blown away” by the overwhelming support from both new and returning fans.
The game's sales momentum was evident from the start, with Hazelight previously reporting that Split Fiction sold 1 million copies within the first 48 hours of its launch. This means an additional million copies were sold in the subsequent five days, showcasing the game's rapid popularity growth.
As a cooperative game, Split Fiction likely engages a much larger player base than the number of copies sold, thanks to its innovative Friend’s Pass feature. This feature allows one player to buy the game and invite a friend to play for free, significantly increasing its reach and impact within the gaming community. With the buzz around Split Fiction continuing to grow on social media, the sales figures are expected to climb even higher.
Hazelight's previous title, 2021 Game of the Year winner It Takes Two, followed a similar trajectory. It sold around 1 million copies shortly after its launch in March 2021, eventually reaching 10 million copies by February 2023 and an impressive 20 million by October 2024.
In IGN's review of Split Fiction, the game was praised as “an expertly crafted co-op adventure that pinballs from one genre extreme to another,” highlighting its dynamic and engaging gameplay experience.
