Stellar Blade DRM, Region Lock Issues Resolved Before PC Launch

by Joseph May 26,2025

As the highly anticipated PC release of Stellar Blade approaches, developer SHIFT UP has proactively addressed fan concerns about the game's use of Denuvo (DRM) and potential region lock issues. These clarifications come in response to widespread discussions among the gaming community regarding how these factors might impact gameplay and accessibility.

SHIFT UP Addressed DRM Concerns

In a recent Twitter (X) post dated May 17, SHIFT UP tackled the controversy surrounding the inclusion of Denuvo anti-tamper technology in Stellar Blade. They emphasized that the DRM has been meticulously optimized to ensure that it maintains the game's average frame rate, with some scenarios even showing higher minimum frames. This response aims to alleviate concerns about potential performance impacts often associated with DRM.

Denuvo is designed to prevent unauthorized copying and distribution of games, a measure taken to combat piracy. While the technology has stirred debate due to its perceived effects on game performance, SHIFT UP's performance tests reveal that Stellar Blade runs comparably with and without DRM. Key metrics such as average framerate, minimum framerate, maximum framerate, 1% low framerate, and 0.1% low framerate remain virtually unchanged.

Moreover, SHIFT UP assured players that Stellar Blade fully supports mods, a significant point for gamers who appreciate customizing their experience. The studio's transparency has been well-received by the community, although many fans still hope for the removal of Denuvo to enhance the game's accessibility.

Region Lock Issues

Another critical issue raised by fans pertains to region locks associated with PlayStation. Although Stellar Blade does not necessitate a connection to the PlayStation Network (PSN), certain regions globally will be unable to access the game due to PSN's limited support, affecting over 130 countries.

SHIFT UP is actively engaged in discussions with their publisher to resolve these region lock concerns as swiftly as possible. They've committed to ensuring that both the PC and PS5 versions of Stellar Blade will offer identical content, guaranteeing that early buyers are not disadvantaged by future updates.

While the community appreciates SHIFT UP's efforts to address these issues, there remains a strong desire for a DRM-free and unrestricted experience. Stellar Blade's PC version is scheduled for release on June 11 via Steam. For the latest updates and more detailed information, make sure to follow our coverage.
