Summary

  • Stellar Blade developer Shift Up gifted its employees a PlayStation 5 Pro and around $3,400 following the game's success.
  • The title continues to see popularity, with several high-profile crossovers driving engagement.
  • A PC port is expected to be released in 2025.

Shift Up, the studio behind the action-adventure game Stellar Blade, generously rewarded its employees with a PlayStation 5 Pro and approximately $3,400 each as a year-end bonus. Launched in April 2024, Stellar Blade quickly became one of the year's most popular titles, receiving widespread acclaim from both players and critics.

Despite initial controversy over the main character's attire, Stellar Blade achieved remarkable success on the PS5. The game boasts an impressive average score of 82 on OpenCritic and has garnered numerous awards and nominations. It is celebrated for its fast-paced combat, stunning art direction, and captivating soundtrack. Notably, Yoko Taro, the creator of Nier, praised Stellar Blade as "better than NieR: Automata," a claim the game's director modestly rejected. The dedicated team at Shift Up was recently honored with substantial bonuses, celebrating the ongoing success of their work.

Shift Up shared a heartwarming video on Twitter of its staff collecting their complimentary PlayStation 5 Pros. With over 300 employees, the Korean studio ensured that every team member received one of Sony's updated consoles along with a bonus of around $3,400. A company representative stated that these generous bonuses were intended to motivate the team moving forward. In July 2024, Shift Up successfully raised $320 million on South Korea's stock market before its first trading day, marking it as the second-largest public offering in the country for that year.

The game's popularity continues to soar, fueled by exciting collaborations. In November 2024, Stellar Blade introduced a Nier: Automata DLC, offering players new items and costumes. Later in December, a collaboration with Goddess of Victory: Nikke was announced, although specific details and a timeline remain undisclosed. Additionally, a holiday-themed event was added in mid-December, enhancing the city of Xion with festive decorations, new music, and costumes for characters Eve and Adam.

Originally released exclusively for the PlayStation 5, Stellar Blade is set to expand its reach with a PC port in 2025, though an exact release date has not been announced. Shift Up expressed confidence in June 2024 that the game would perform exceptionally well on PC. Stellar Blade achieved a significant milestone by selling one million units on the PS5 within its first two months.
