Assassin's Creed Shadows' First DLC, "Claws of Awaji," Leaks on Steam
A Steam leak has reportedly revealed details about "Claws of Awaji," the first downloadable content (DLC) for the upcoming Assassin's Creed Shadows. This expansion, set in feudal Japan, promises a significant amount of new content.
Assassin's Creed Shadows, the franchise's first foray into 16th-century Japan, introduces dual protagonists: Yasuke, a Samurai, and Naoe, a Shinobi. The game's development has been fraught with challenges, including negative feedback and multiple delays. Its release date was recently pushed back again to March 20, 2025.
The leaked Steam update, since removed, detailed "Claws of Awaji," outlining new features including a fresh region to explore, a novel weapon type, additional skills, gear, and abilities. The expansion is expected to add over 10 hours of gameplay. Pre-ordering the game will reportedly grant access to both the DLC and a bonus mission.
Delayed Release and Ubisoft's Uncertain Future
The "Claws of Awaji" leak follows another delay announcement for Assassin's Creed Shadows. Initially slated for November 15, 2024, the game was first postponed to February 14, 2025, and then further delayed to March 20, 2025, to allow for additional polishing.
This latest setback comes at a time of uncertainty for Ubisoft, the game's publisher. Rumors of a potential Tencent acquisition are circulating, adding to the pressure following the less-than-stellar performance of several recent Ubisoft titles, including XDefiant and Star Wars Outlaws.
