Unreal Engine 5.5 Tech Demo Offers Glimpse Into a Futuristic Cyberpunk Metropolis

An innovative cyberpunk city walkthrough, powered by Unreal Engine 5.5.3, has been released. Created by artist Sciontidesign, this tech demo draws inspiration from the Samaritan UE3 demo, Blade Runner, and Cyberpunk 2077, offering a visually immersive experience. Showcased on high-end hardware (NVIDIA RTX 5090 GPU, AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D CPU, 32GB DDR5 RAM at 6000MHz), the demo relies entirely on dynamic lighting, showcasing Nanite with Distance Field Meshes and Ambient Occlusion, combined with Screen Space Reflections. The absence of Lumen, Path Tracing, RTX, DLSS, and baked lighting highlights UE5's capabilities even without its most advanced features.

The rendering of wet surfaces is remarkably detailed, enhancing the city's atmosphere, although the rain effect feels somewhat artificial. Unfortunately, the demo is hampered by frequent invisible walls, disrupting immersion. While Unreal Engine 5 consistently delivers visually impressive tech demos, real-world game implementations often face performance challenges.
