"Upgrade Weapons in Atomfall: A Guide"

by Max Apr 03,2025

In *Atomfall*, upgrading your weapons not only enhances their stats but also gives them a dazzling new skin and can unlock the prestigious 'Make do and mend' trophy. Here’s a detailed guide on how to upgrade your weapons in *Atomfall*.

How to Unlock the Gunsmithing Skill in Atomfall

Speak to Morris at his Village Shop
To unlock the crafting recipes for upgraded weapons in *Atomfall*, you first need to acquire the Gunsmithing skill. This essential survival skill can be learned by reading the Crafting Manual. While finding these skill-related books can be challenging, there's a straightforward method to obtain this particular one.

Morris Wick, located at the Village Shop in Wyndham, holds a copy of the Crafting Manual. However, acquiring it involves more than simple bartering; it requires some strategic blackmail. Upon entering St. Katherine’s Church, you'll uncover a recent murder of Maisie, which the Vicar is keen to cover up. Through further investigation, you can find evidence implicating Morris in the crime.

The crucial evidence is located in the Brewery Cellar at coordinates 30.5 E, 80.5 N in the western part of Wyndham Village. Enter the cellar through the door by the ruined building and search for the note titled "Kill the One They Call Maisie". Once you have the note, return to Morris’ Village Shop at 33.3 E, 79.9 N. Engage in dialogue that subtly pressures Morris without outright threats until you reach the "Bargaining" option. Choosing this will prompt Morris to hand over the Crafting Manual in exchange for your silence.

Alternatively, you can find the Crafting Manual in the D Section of The Interchange, though this method is more difficult and time-consuming.

After acquiring and reading the Crafting Manual, you must spend 7 Training Stimulants to unlock the Gunsmith skill, which will provide access to the recipes for crafting upgraded weapons. These stimulants can be found in B.A.R.D. structures such as Bunkers and The Interchange.

With the Crafting Manual and the Gunsmith skill in hand, you'll have the recipes needed to craft weapon upgrades. Each time you acquire a weapon, you unlock the recipe for its next highest tier, ranging from Rusty to Stock, and finally to Pristine. To upgrade a weapon, you'll need two copies of it in the previous tier, along with specific amounts of Gun Oil and Scrap. The required quantities can vary depending on the weapon.

For instance, upgrading the Falkirk Battle Rifle to Pristine requires 2 Falkirk Battle Rifle (Stock) items, 3 Gun Oil, and 6 Scrap. Gun Oil and Scrap are commonly found at military installations like Protocol Camps. If you plan on upgrading weapons frequently, consider investing in the Deep Pockets survival skill to increase your capacity for carrying crafting supplies.

Upon upgrading a weapon to Pristine for the first time, you'll earn the 'Make do and mend' Achievement or Trophy, a testament to your crafting prowess.

*Atomfall* is currently available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox Game Pass, offering players across various platforms the chance to enhance their weapons and master the art of survival.
